The preprint describes historical events and facts regarding the Institute's activities over the 60-year period of its creation, formation, and development. It draws on materials from numerous publications, as well as the author's personal impressions and memories. It also provides information about the work of past and present staff, including leading scientists. Dedicated to the bright memory of Viktor Mikhailovich Glushkov.
